Consagración por el Papa Benedicto XVI El 7 de noviembre el Papa Benedicto XVI consagró el templo elevándolo a la categoría de basílica menor. «Consagrar es segregar del uso profano. Por tanto, la consagración de un edificio es su dedicación a un uso exclusivamente sagrado». Antes de la ceremonia Benedicto XVI pidió que fuera abierta por primera vez la Puerta de la Eucaristía.
