St.Bartholomew

St.Bartholomew was one of the Apostles of Jesus. He went to preach the Gospel to India, where he left a copy of the Gospel of Matthew in aramaic. The Armenian tradition credited him and St.Jude the preaching of Christianity in the caucasus country, being considered both patron saints of the Armenian Apostolic Church. He is represented with a large knife, alluding to his supposed martyrdom, in which he was skinned alive, and that is the reason he is the patron of the tanners.

The statue was modeled and performed by the sculptor Josep María Subirachs.
