Jesús Pilato miró a Jesús y le dijo: «¿Eres tú, pues, el rey de los judíos?» Jesús respondió: «¿Lo preguntas porque tú lo crees posible, o porque otros te lo han dicho?» Pilato le dijo: «¿Soy acaso judío para ocuparme de semejantes necedades? Tu pueblo y sus sacerdotes te han entregado a mis manos, porque, según dicen, mereces morir. Dime lo que has hecho.» Jesús le contestó: «Mi reino no es de este mundo». Pilato se sintió perturbado con estas solemnes palabras, y le dijo: «Entonces, ¿me estás diciendo que en verdad eres un rey?» Jesús respondió: «Tú lo has dicho, soy un rey. He nacido y he venido a este mundo para dar testimonio de la verdad.» Pilato lo miró y, levantándose, dijo: «¿La verdad? ¿Qué es la verdad?». Jesus Pilatus looked at Jesus and said, «Are you the king of the jews?» Jesus replied: «Do you ask why you believe it possible, or because others have told you?» Pilatus said to him: «Am I a jew to deal with such nonsense? Your folk and their priests have delivered you to my hands, because, they say, you deserve to die. Tell me what you've done». Jesus replied, «My kingdom is not of this world». Pilatus was disturbed with these solemn words, and said: «So you're telling me you really are a king?» Jesus answered, «Thou hast said, I am a king. I was born and came to this world to bear witness to the truth». Pilatus looked at him and got up and said, «Honestly, what is truth?». |
